I had breast cancer twelve years ago and my boys were struggling with it. I made good use of the caravan at Hopton with my family.

Free emotional, practical and wellbeing support for anyone affected by cancer.

Dereham Cancer Care provides support to people whose lives are affected by cancer in the mid Norfolk area. This may be patients themselves, their families or friends.
At our centre you will find a warm welcome, emotional support and practical information. Many of our volunteers have personal experience of cancer. Whether you’re looking for a friendly chat over a cuppa or to connect with someone who truly understands what you’re going through, we’re here for you. It can be really valuable to talk to people outside of your immediate circle.
We offer a variety of resources, including booklets from Macmillan Cancer Support on topics such as cancer types, treatment options, living with cancer, and well-being.
If you need physical support, we have wheelchairs and other aids available on loan to help you maintain your independence.
Our qualified therapist offers reflexology and Indian head massage appointments, available for both patients and their loved ones. These complementary therapies can boost well-being, and in some cases the charity provides funding for the sessions.
The centre has a range of spaces – our quiet room provides a peaceful setting for one-to-one discussions, while the lounge is ideal for general chats (often with lots of laughter) and the community room hosts coffee mornings and workshops. We have a dart board and pool table and there’s always a jigsaw in progress.
We’re also pleased to provide respite breaks at our holiday home at Hopton on Sea.
We’re here to offer you more than just services—we’re here to walk alongside you on your journey. Our aim is to ensure that no one in the Dereham area faces cancer alone. Please come and see how we can help.

If you would like to sponsor Dereham Cancer Care we have a range of packages available from £10 per month.
Please get in touch for more details.

We are delighted to receive funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
In April 2024 we posted the following announcement on social media – “Dereham Cancer Care celebrates after being awarded £98,920 of National Lottery funding over three years to support people whose lives are affected by cancer.
The money will be used to maintain and develop Dereham Cancer Care’s services and to enable greater outreach to the wider community through links with local businesses and schools.”
In confirming the award, The National Lottery said “We are proud to support the good work you do, using funding raised by National Lottery players for good causes. It’s thanks to them that we give out more than £600 million to charities, community and voluntary groups each year.”
I had breast cancer twelve years ago and my boys were struggling with it. I made good use of the caravan at Hopton with my family.
My head was really bad, and I had to talk to somebody in here. It helped me so much. My head is a lot clearer and free. It was so powerful.
I think I’d have been lost if I couldn’t come here.
My husband loved coming here because they were always cheerful and positive.
To come in and hear the laughter is an absolute tonic. Sometimes it’s not laughter, sometimes it’s tears and it’s hugs and it’s everything. It’s an absolute joy.
I lost my Mum and this lovely lot picked me up.
To me, it’s a big thing to have people that you can just come in to talk to.
It’s just nice to talk to somebody who knows.
“Exceptionally supportive to my brother during his illness as well as being a great support to me and my family following loss of my brother a few months ago !! Excellent charity doing excellent work xxx”
“WOW!!! So much to say, but so little space to write it!!
I’m not sure where I would be without DCC! I met Zoe after I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I faced 6 months of chemo, followed by an operation and then Radiotherapy.
My reason for getting in touch was to ask if they knew anywhere to get a wig from, little did I know, that almost 1yr on from then, I’d be visiting once a month for complementary reflexology (which is still supported, even though I’ve finished my treatment!!) once a month for a coffee morning (not just amazing cakes, but a chance to meet other people going through the same or loved ones and supporters of the centre) or once a month for Bingo.
I’ve met some truly amazing and inspirational people through DCC, who I’ve shared my journey and my story with and these people, I believe, will be friends for life. I cannot recommend Zoe and the Centre more. The biggest thank you from me, for everything you do.xx”
